Doreen Lillian Oliver (nee Metcalfe)
January 20, 1939 – March 10, 2022
Our mothers prayers were answered and God called her home on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.
After a short illness, she passed away peacefully at Port Perry Hospital in her 84th year and is now reunited with her husband R. Grant Oliver. Loving mother of Rick (Catherine) and Lisa (Darcy Joyce), grandma to Ruthann, Troy, Keara and Lexie. Predeceased by her parents George & Violet Metcalfe and survived by her four sisters Grace (Tom Kahl), Alice Morrison, Darlene (Charles Perrett (deceased) and Cynthia (Brian Parkhill).
While being a military spouse, Doreen was frequently a solo parent. The family moved throughout Ontario, Alberta, England and Germany …….collecting friends and treasures along the way. Her love of travel, curiosity about other cultures and pragmatic nature were well suited to her life of military postings. Upon Grants retirement, they resided in Barrie, later moving to Ayr and finally to Cannington in 2002 to be closer to family.
A special thank you to Wilma, Bill, friends and neighbours who made sure she was well taken care of, especially after Grant’s passing. The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Schurter and the medical team at Port Perry Hospital for their tremendous care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 9th @ 11:00am, Cedardale Church of the Nazarene, 471 Pefferlaw Rd, Pefferlaw, ON L0E 1N0 , followed by refreshments. We kindly ask that due to Covid-19, masks be worn at the chapel service and reception (while not consuming refreshments). Private family burial at St. George’s Cemetery, 408-410 Hedge Rd, Sutton.
