Evelyn (Watt) Ogden passed away suddenly in Millbrook Ontario on Thursday December 8th in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her husband Michael Ogden and her sister Betty (Watt) Greenwood, she will be missed by her three children Mac (Jenny), Jamie (JJ) and Haidée (David) and grandchildren Jacob and Mei.
Evie grew up near Bayview Ave. and Blythwood Road in what was then the outskirts of Toronto. She rode horses at Hog’s Hollow, attended Havergal College and was a dedicated ‘Old Girl’ class rep for her year. After graduation she travelled extensively to Europe where she caught the travel bug that led to an early career as a travel agent.
She and Mike met through mutual friends and the adventure continued, living in Ireland, travelling to Expo 67’ and later, after starting a family, the 76’ Olympics by boat. Early in the marriage they moved out of the city to Stouffville where they raised their children and bred Labrador Retrievers. Friends and family remember their annual Christmas Tree cutting parties, steeped in snow and cider fumes.
Evie was equally hospitable in the Summer months and loved to entertain at the family cottage on Georgian Bay. She had a talent for flower arrangement, loved crosswords and a good ‘Murder She Wrote’ type murder mystery. She acquired her Realtor Licence and worked for Bosley Real Estate for many years out of their Yonge and Lawrence branch. She loved out of town assignments, country drives and made the effort to stay in touch with all her far flung friends.
Evie’s expert knowledge of Southern Ontario informed their move to Bethany in Cavan Township where she and Mike enjoyed retirement at their very own 20 acre wood. Always the Anglican, Evie looked for opportunities to help out, in church choirs, pageants, bazaars and as a driver for Community Care.
Evie demonstrated considerable flexibility in her final move to Centennial Place in Millbrook where she received excellent care. She made the best of failing eyesight by singing from memory, competing in trivia nights and watching TVO whenever she could. She always had special treats for her four legged friends. Thank you to the Morton Line/St. Thomas/Millbrook community who helped Evie survive quarantine lockdowns by filling the bird feeders, reading the stories and getting her to Church on time.
A Funeral Service will take place on Monday December 19, 2022 at 11AM followed by a Graveside Service at St Johns York Mills Church and Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario. 19 Don Ridge Drive, North York, Ontario M2P 1H3
