Towes, Gordon “Sandy” Kenneth
Gordon (“Sandy”) passed away peacefully with family by his side at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg on Thursday November 27th, 2025, in his 85th year.
Beloved husband of the late Sharon Towes. Loving father of Kevin (Julia), and Colin Towes. Adoring grandfather of Nathan, and Joshua. Brother of Marlean Chambers (Glen), Joe-Anne, and the late Jack, Jim (Shirley). Sandy will be missed by his life-long friend Kathy McKeen (the late Llyod) and family.
Sandy was a life-long resident of Port Hope and Welcome. He retired from General Motors after 25 years and enjoyed his long retirement travelling with his wife, Sharon and being involved in his Antique Car Clubs where they traveled across Ontario touring in his old cars, managing car tours and cruises and supporting that community. He enjoyed travelling south each year to Florida, Arizona and Louisiana each winter with Sharon and continued that tradition with friend Kathy as they continued to enjoy their life-long friendship together, bringing their families and friends closer. Sandy loved being with friends, playing cards, shuffleboard and bocce and, with Kathy, hosted many parties on their Florida Lenai to bring their friends together – he was also known for some good pranks and mischief. Sandy was proud of his sons (Kevin (Julia) and Colin) and their families. He was always present to support them in their adventures, many times offering some good pragmatic advice. His grandsons (Nathan and Joshua) will miss him dearly but with fond memories of grandpa’s old cars.
Sandy will be remembered for his humour, generosity and kindness for others, his goodwill towards his family, and his beloved friends. Despite his recent health challenges, he remained fiercely independent and left us on his own terms.
A small graveside service will be held at the Welcome Cemetery at 200 Toronto Rd, Port Hope, ON, on Tuesday December 9th, 2025, at 12 pm followed by a Celebration of life at the Masonic Lodge 54 Toronto Rd., Port Hope, ON from 1 – 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences may be placed at www.millvalleyfuneral.com
