JAMES SPENCE STEWART, Q.C.
September 11, 1931- December 25, 2021.
In his 90th year, Spence passed away peacefully on Christmas morning after an illness of several months. He leaves behind his wife Maureen of 61 years, three children, Andrew, Blake and Jane, and his dear granddaughter Alexandra. His lengthy law career spanned 5 decades. After graduating from Dalhousie University, he returned to Ontario to practice general law in Northern Ontario. In 1965, he was appointed Crown Attorney for the Tri-Towns area, and later Sudbury. In the early seventies, he moved back to Toronto where he became General Counsel for Cadillac Fairview. He then went on and worked in private practice for the remainder of his long career. His retirement years were spent in Baltimore, Ontario, where he was able to give full vent to his love of farming. There will be no public service due to the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider Sunnybrook Hospital with the family's gratitude.
