BURLEY, RICHARD (RICK) – After a lengthy battle with diabetes, Rick passed away at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, on Saturday, August 26th, 2017 at the age of 66. He faced his illness with humour and courage right up to the end. Rick was predeceased by his father, Lloyd in 1983 and his mother, Jean (his true rock for many years) in February 2017. Lovingly remembered by siblings Dianne Balfour of Oshawa, Laurna Stacey (Tom) of Roseneath and Roger Burley (Carol) of Baltimore, and by his 6 nieces, nephews and 8 great nieces and nephews, as well as many relatives and friends. Rick loved music of all kinds and was given the title of Hospital DJ entertaining the patients, nurses and the custodians by playing his CD’s for them. He enjoyed following the horse races and he had an exceptional memory for names and numbers. Despite his health challenges Rick was always telling jokes or pulling pranks and laughing. He will be remembered as kind, caring and thoughtful to many.
A Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, September 30th from 1-3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 136 Orr Street, Cobourg. Come out and share your stories and pictures of Rick with his family and friends. Donations in memory of Richard may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association.
