Sharon Thomas (nee Schwalm) Obituary

It is with tremendous heartbreak that the family of Sherry Thomas sadly announce her sudden passing, at her home in Port Perry, on October 5, 2022, at the age of 76.

While we are grief stricken at her loss, we know she is reunited with the love of her life and husband of 55 years, John Thomas, who passed away on July 28, 2021.

She is also reunified with her parents, the late Clayton (2004) and Alma (2003) Schwalm of Lindsay, and her brother and nephews, the late Bryce (2020), Ryan (2016) and Randy (2008) Schwalm of Newmarket.

Sherry will be deeply missed by her three adoring daughters, Carrie (Lance) Sherk of Oakwood, Christine Thomas of Bowmanville, and Cynthia (Roger) Gray of Port Hope; cherished grandchildren, Jordan, Breanna, Lindsay, Courtney and Sheridan; special great-granddaughter, Aleah; and great-niece, Jessica. She will be gravely missed by her sister and eternal friend, Janice Drohan of Toronto.

Like her mother before her, Sherry was deeply devoted to her family and embraced a strong sense of family values. She shared a special bond with her grandchildren, holding them close with an intuitive knowing of tenderness, patience and understanding. Her home was the hub that welcomed, always with an array of delectable homemade foods and a warm hug, and where left-overs were always shared.

Sherry’s strength of character was profound and her sense of commitment to her beliefs unwavering. Although deeply private, to our family she was the known constant and the mainstay that held us closely and lovingly together.

Sherry enjoyed an artistic flare and passion for cooking, gardening and home craft designs. She also had a keen interest in genealogy and spent countless hours deeply researching and documenting our family’s heritage. It was an important part of her legacy that she pass down to her family a detailed history of our past, with the hope that it will be embraced by future generations.

Over the years, a favourite pastime was regularly attending the Concerts in the Park series in both Port Perry and Bowmanville, where Sherry and her beloved husband, John loved to mingle with friends and dance under the warm evening skies. She also became an avid supporter and friend of a local cat rescue organization called Barn Cat Co-op, with whom she planned to adopt. Coming from a long family of feline lovers, and following the passing of her dear little Missy earlier this year, Sherry was near ready to embrace another furbaby into her loving care.

If you wish, donations would be greatly accepted by either of the above organizations that were dear to Sherry’s heart.
