Victoria "Vicki" Kimmett Obituary

Victoria (Vicki) Ellen Kimmett, age 70 of Cobourg passed peacefully on October 21, 2022, at home while sleeping with her beloved dogs Gus and Miko cuddled up with her as they did every night. Adored mother of April and Adrian (Peg) and Granny to Owen, Dryden, Max, Nolan and Jorja. Cherished sister of Kathy (John) and Aunt of Megan, Melanie, Jennifer and their children among others. Predeceased by her parents Catherine and Don Kimmett, her sister Heather Thompson, her special Aunt Diane McCammon and her dear friend Clare Lewis.

Vicki was born in Kingston. She was the eldest of 3 and spent most of her childhood in Cobourg with her parents and sisters Heather and Kathy. She then moved to Guelph for school and there started her family before returning to Cobourg for many years.

Her journey had many interesting twists and turns. She is the founder of former Women in Crisis, now Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre, where she recruited many amazing women to bring services for women impacted by domestic violence to Northumberland County. Her career path took her from working with local MP Christine Stewart, to working for the City of Kingston, to the Municipality of Brighton and then after retirement to the Brighton Public Library where she enjoyed being surrounded by books. She made many special friendships along the way.

She didn’t meet an animal she didn’t love but was especially smitten with Dachshunds. She worked with Dachshund rescues over the years adopting dogs who had been forced to breed in puppy mills from as far as South Carolina and found this fulfilling and rewarding. She would patiently show her dogs how to trust and love and each of her dogs adored her. Those who passed before her left her with immense grief – Willie, Diva, Earl and Rudy. Now her Miko and Gus are left with their own immense grief losing her.

She was a home body, who after giving so much of herself over the years, valued her alone time. There were few things she enjoyed more in life than a good book, a big glass of Diet Coke, a journal with a new pen and Van Morrison playing in the background with her pets snuggled around her.

Vicki had many talents and was immensely creative in almost everything she did whether it be writing poems, short stories, and journaling, making a special quilt for her oldest grandson, sketching a favourite photo of another, teaching another to crochet. She poured her love and care into all that she did for her children and grandchildren and never let any of them forget just how much they were adored. She loved telling stories about her grandchildren and would laugh at how each of them had her wrapped around their little fingers. They enjoyed every moment with her, sharing with her a love of wiener dogs, having special chats in the car, telling her their secrets.

Above anything else, she took the most pride in her children and grandchildren. She loved and protected them fiercely and nothing made her feel prouder or blessed than to be a Mom and Granny. Her greatest joy was watching her five grandchildren grow and developing separate, unique, and special relationships with Owen, Dryden, Max, Nolan and Jorja. The loss is profound and immeasurable, and she leaves behind memories of a life that’s been loved.

“He said, “It’s still the Greatest Story”

I said, “Man I’d like to stay

But I’m bound for glory

I’m on my way

My ride’s here…” (My Ride’s Here, song by Warren Zevon)

As she wished, a celebration of her life will be held at a date to be determined. Her family welcomes donations to a charity of one’s choice related to animal rescues.
